Freezing Center

Canine Reproduction Center is part of Zoetis Freeze Center, which ensures our ability to prepare and freeze semen for long-term storage. We can use fresh, cooled, frozen semen to breed.

Transcervical Insemination

Transcervical Insemination is a non-surgical technique for the intrauterine insemination of frozen semen. The process involves a rigid endoscope (tiny video camera) to locate the cervix, and then the frozen semen is passed through a catheter, impregnating the female.

Surgical Insemination

During natural breeding, the male’s semen must cross the female’s cervix in order to enter the uterus for fertilization. Surgical insemination guarantees direct exposure of the semen to the developing egg. During a surgical insemination, anesthesia is administered, and aseptic has been prepared. The frozen semen is then inserted into the anterior horn of the uterus with a small needle.

Routine and Emergency C-Sections

A Caesarian section or a c-section is performed to remove puppies from the uterus instead of natural birth through the birth canal. The surgery is typically performed when the dog has been in labor for a while. A c-section can also be scheduled ahead of time but only offered if recommended by one of our staff. Recovery time is dependent on the dog.

Progesterone Testing

Routine progesterone testing helps determine and monitor a number of points of the dog’s pregnancy. Progesterone testing is conducted in the early stages of pregnancy when symptoms could suggest a failing pregnancy, or throughout the pregnancy to monitor the health of the placenta and offspring’s health.
